A SharePoint Winner!
A great team achievement and another success story for an Agile SharePoint project.
The Crown Estate’s Renewable Energy Project Marine Data Exchange (MDE) collected the Project of the Year – Gold Award at the 2013 Document Manager magazine DM Awards in London.

Adamson commented, “Marine Data Exchange was truly a team effort. With a highly skilled cross-functional team, pooling knowledge from a very broad skillset, everyone was focused on delivering, not just a solution to a complex problem, but the right solution for The Crown Estate.”
“It may sound cliché but the truth is, everyone was working together, not as individuals but as one team to produce an amazing product”, Adamson said.

Marine Data Exchange is a pioneering and highly complex Big Data project, treading technical ground that had not been trodden before, by using Microsoft SharePoint to store and manage up to 1PB (1,000 terabytes) of marine survey reports and data. Portions of this data were then made available, in the cloud, with Windows Azure, to businesses and other interested parties.
Adamson added, “Marine Data Exchange” was initially going to be run as a traditional Waterfall project. However, with some very direct advice from Jeff Sutherland, the co-creator of Scrum, I was able to provide a convincing argument that Scrum was the only way to deliver a project of such complexity, on time and within budget. I am delighted to say that the success of MDE has fuelled a wider adoption of Agile within The Crown Estate.”
